Sources: Derby County in advanced talks to sign Man City's Divin Mubama
Derby County are in advanced talks to sign Manchester City forward Divin Mubama on loan, sources have told Football Insider.
The 21-year-old is close to joining the Rams for what would be his second consecutive season in the Championship, after he spent the last campaign on loan with Stoke City.
The forward netted five goals in 28 appearances all competitions for the Potters, before his season was all but ended by a serious injury.
Mubama is on a long-term contract at Man City and made his Premier League debut for the club last year.
He has already scored his first goal for the Citizens, too, netting against Salford City in an 8-0 win in the FA Cup.
Divin Mubama looking for jumpstart
Mubama joined Man City from West Ham in 2024, signing in a deal reportedly worth around £2million.
The England youth international had impressed massively at all levels of youth football, and was eyed as a very promising talent.
The youngster scored 30 goals in 47 games at Under-18 level, and 26 in 39 in the Premier League 2.
And for England, Mubama has scored five goals in just seven caps for the U21s, with all of those coming during qualifying for the European Championship.
The talent is yet to translate that type of form to the senior level, but there is hope that he will on fire once he does.
Derby appears a sensible destination for the 21-year-old, with John Eustace's team aiming high in the table.
Mubama's destruction of Bristol City
Many players cannot say they have ever scored a career hat-trick, but Mubama got his first against Bristol City in November.
The first was a typical striker's goal, sliding in to poke home a low cross, and the second saw him profit from a bizarre Radek Vitek mistake.
Mubama capped off his hat-trick with another superb finish, and Stoke fans must have been left wandering what they had signed.
If Derby can encourage that type of form out of the 21-year-old, they will be in for a treat.
