Sources: Man City open talks to agree Teddie Lamb deal
Manchester City have opened talks with teenage sensation Teddie Lamb to agree a new contract, sources have told Football Insider.
The 17-year-old is very highly regarded at the Etihad after he finished last season at the club's top scorer at Under-18 level with 25 goals in what proved to be a successful year.
He played a key role in City lifting the FA Youth Cup and Under-18s Premier League North, and there are high hopes for his long-term development.
Lamb joined Man City's academy from Leyton Orient in 2025 after his performances for the League Two side's youth teams caught the eye of watching scouts.
City are now set to reward his impressive performances with an extended deal to keep him at the club long-term and deter any growing interest from rival clubs.
The striker is currently on a scholarship deal at the Etihad, which is expected to run until 2027, but the club are moving quickly to improve his terms.
Why do Man City want to keep Teddie Lamb?
Man City are planning to keep Lamb at the Etihad has part of a renewed focus on their youth teams and improving players to break into their squad in the future.
Phil Foden is the most notable Man City academy product involved at first-team level, but the emergence of the likes of Nico O'Reilly and Rico Lewis has been a major strength.
Many of City's academy players have also left the club and are impressing elsewhere, with the likes of Cole Palmer, Morgan Rogers, Felix Nmecha and Liam Delap impressing elsewhere.
The club hope Lamb will be the next to progress through their youth ranks and make his mark on the first-team, with his form over the last season seen as a huge positive.
There are long-term plans for his development which will be carefully managed, and signing a new contract will give him the opportunity to pick up where he left off.
Which other players are key for Man City's academy?
As part of Man City's renewed focus on academy development, they are also putting plans in place to poach the best talent from rival academies across the country.
Lamb's arrival from Leyton Orient last summer has proved to be a major success, and they are keen to replicate that as they continue to bolster their youth ranks.
More recently, Man City have agreed a deal to sign Leicester's teenage sensation Jeremy Monga, as Keith Wyness told Football Insider Enzo Maresca was key to the deal.
The 16-year-old has already made his mark on the first-team at Leicester, and will now join City for a fee totalling £10million despite having been closing in on a move to Arsenal.
Man City moved quickly to hijack their rivals' deal, and Monga will likely play a role for City's academy rather than breaking immediate into their first-team plans.
