Stefan Borson hits back at Richard Keys' 'ludicrous' Elliot Anderson to Man City rant

Richard Keys is wrong to expect Manchester City to miss out on transfers due to the ongoing uncertainty over their alleged financial breaches.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that the broadcaster is wrong to criticise Elliot Anderson's impending move to the Etihad Stadium.

Referred to by some as the "Trial of the Century", supporters from across the world are waiting patiently to discover the outcome of Man City's court case.

Despite the dark cloud over the Etihad, the 10-time Premier League champions continue to make transfer plans, with an eye-watering deal for Nottingham Forest's Anderson now all-but-confirmed.

Whether you believe Fabrizio Romano or Florian Plettenberg, the Citizens will be paying excess of £100million for the England international, having beaten Manchester United to the punch.

Unsurprisingly, rival fans continue to bang the same drum, and Keys is no different, having lashed out at the ongoing uncertainty over City's charges.

Man City can't 'pause' summer transfer plans

Taking to X (24 June), Keys wrote: "2 quick questions. 1 - Shouldn’t Elliot Anderson have a WC on his mind - not a move to Man City? 2 - How the hell can City be allowed to keep spending money when there are 135 3-year-old FFP charges still not resolved?

Keys labelled the situation as "madness" and "an insult to football fans," but speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson pushed back at the claims.

"I suspect most people agree with them, first of all. But what do you want Man City to do? City said they haven't done what's alleged," he said.

"There's been a big case. City can't pause everything in the entire club for the whole period, for two years, whatever it is, three years, four years, longer. City can't just go on pause.

"They have to carry on and they're carrying on with confidence that they'll be cleared in the decision. I think their confidence is there for all to see.

"They must have spent, probably taking over a £1billion if you include the building of the stadium, probably since the hearing itself ended.

"What do want City to do? City can't just stop. They say they haven't done it. I do think a lot of people would agree with Richard Keys.

"And I think everybody would agree, including City themselves, that a 19-month wait for a decision following the end of the hearing is completely ludicrous and unacceptable and very hard to understand."

Man City likely to infuriate rival fans ever further

It is not a surprise at all to see many football fans agreeing with the points that Keys has raised, and continues to do so on social media.

However, Man City's spending is unlikely to stop at Anderson, with Enzo Maresca already believed to be working on deals despite not being announced at Pep Guardiola's replacement yet.

Newcastle United's Sandro Tonali is also on the club's radar, suggesting that contingency plans are being put in place for Rodri's potential departure.

Man City have already bid farewell to Bernardo Silva in the middle of the park, and getting more big-name players into the squad this summer could be integral.
