Stefan Borson puzzled by Pep Guardiola's Man City return vs PSG

Pep Guardiola's return to the Etihad Stadium is nothing more than a PR stunt as Manchester City face PSG in the Champions League.

That is according to former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that the former manager's appearance will only serve as a "distraction".

Guardiola is set to show his face at the Etihad for the first time since stepping down during the summer, but also for the first time since the Citizens were found guilty on 114 charges.

Man City are currently the biggest story in world football, with fans worldwide speculating on what punishment the eight-time Premier League winners should face.

On the pitch, however, full focus in on the upcoming trip to Anfield, as well as welcoming PSG to the Etihad on Wednesday, 14 October.

Guardiola has already voiced his support for the club amid the ongoing situation behind the scenes, and will do so by attending the Champions League fixture as well.

Man City vs PSG to be shrouded by "distraction"

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson believes that his return could serve more as a "distraction" than anything else, stating that there is nothing to read into.

"I don't think it says anything. I think it's optics and PR, and a show of support, but I don't know if means anything really," he said.

"It's a bit odd, but so be it. And good for him. He's not going to speak to anyone, so all you're going to get is a kind of Alex Ferguson-type constant cutting to the crowd.

"So in some ways, it's just going to be a distraction, but you can't stop him going to games, and presumably City have asked him to go.

"Or he's offered, and they've said yes, so I wouldn't read anything into it particularly."

Could Pep Guardiola get caught up in Man City's case?

When Guardiola announced his exit at the end of last season, there were huge questions over whether it was linked with the Premier League's investigation.

Those claims snowballed when the guilty verdict emerged, though many have been quick to squash the idea that he knew anything about the club's wrongdoings.

Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, believes that Guardiola's legacy will remain "untarnished," with no sort of punishment for the Catalan.

The 55-year-old simply did his best with what the owners gave him, and 20 major trophies would suggest that he couldn't have done any more.
