Manchester City, Chelsea and AC Milan are in talks to sign Wigan youngster Harrison Bettoni, sources have told Football Insider.

Bettoni,18, is out of contract at Wigan this summer and could be allowed to leave the club for minimal training compensation if talks progress.

The attacking midfielder burst onto the scene in November, when he scored a brace against Wimbledon on his League One debut from the substitutes bench.

He went on to score four goals last season in just 11 starts, including the winner against Preston North End in the third round of the FA Cup.

Bettoni's promise has alerted Premier League giants Chelsea and Man City, as well as AC Milan, as they view him as a potential star in the making.

Are Wigan set to lose Harrison Bettoni?

Wigan comfortably avoided relegation from League One last time out, but their summer struggles have already begun after Harrison turned down contract offers.

The Latics had been keen to keep their 18-year-old sensation at the club, but amid interest from other clubs higher up the pyramid, he looks set to move on.

A number of Championship clubs are believed to be keen on signing Bettoni, and could offer him the chance at a step up and more regular football.

However, the presence of Premier League and European giants in the race is set to complicate things, with all three clubs having already opened talks.

While he would not be guaranteed regular minutes immediately, there are high hopes for his development with a view to working his way into the first-team plans.

Man City make plans to bolster their academy ranks

Should Man City win the race against their rivals for Bettoni, he will likely become part of their academy side rather than stepping into what could be a new-look first-team.

This comes off the back of a successful season in which City's Under-18s side lifted the FA Youth Cup and Under-18 Premier League North, beating rivals Man United to both.

However, Football Insider exclusively revealed on 1 June that Man United want to sign David Eze, a talented midfielder currently on the books at City.

United are keeping a close eye on Eze’s future and are ready to offer the 16-year-old the opportunity to make the switch to Old Trafford.

Eze is very highly regarded at the Etihad, as well as internationally where he has represented England at Under-16 level, and City will hope to keep hold of him.
