Man City may have to allow the Spain international to depart, due to his contract expiring in 2027, or they risk losing him on a free transfer.
The Manchester club have already made four signings this summer, including the addition of Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest for £120million.

The midfielder is arguably the best player in the world at present, and is one of the favourites to win the Ballon d’Or after his performances in the 2026 World Cup.
It remains to be seen if Barcelona or Real Madrid would be willing to spend such a high amount on a player that they could pick up on a free transfer next summer.
