Next Man City manager's Tijjani Reijnders 'plans' revealed amid Serie A interest

Manchester City have no "immediate plans" to sell midfielder Tijjani Reijnders this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The arrival of a new manager at the Etihad Stadium is set to hand the Dutchman a "new start" at the club, after he fell out of favour under Pep Guardiola.

The 27-year-old is hopeful that he can catch the eye at the World Cup and in pre-season, and earn himself more gametime in 2025-26.

City are not looking to narrow their midfield options any further after Bernardo Silva's exit, and as a result, they have no intention of selling Reijnders this summer.

Serie A clubs have shown an interest in taking him back to Italy in recent months, but the Citizens do not want to do business.

The new manager is expected to take some time before deciding on how to handle Reijnders' long-term future.

Reijnders was a big acquisition for City when they shelled out around £46million to sign him from AC Milan last summer, but he didn't make the impact that many had expected.

The former AZ Alkmaar man quickly fell out of favour with Guardiola, and only one of his seven Premier League goal involvements came after the start of 2026.

However, the door is now open for him to force his way up the pecking order ahead of next season, with a new face stepping into the dugout.

That is widely expected to be Enzo Maresca, and the imminent arrival of the Italian is likely to see the entire squad set back to square one.

Reijnders is currently away at the World Cup with the Netherlands, but is understood to be keen to impress in pre-season upon his return.

His lack of football in the second half of 2025-26 had raised speculation that he could be sold this summer, but City are prepared to give him more time to prove himself.

Former Manchester City financial advisor Stefan Borson told Football Insider that Nottingham Forest are playing a "dangerous game" with Elliot Anderson.

The Reds have already knocked back a £120m offer from City for the England international, and are holding out for a guaranteed fee of over £125m.

Borson questioned how Forest could turn down such a lofty fee, and pointed out that Anderson's value could rapidly diminish if he got a major injury.

City are caught up in their pursuit of the midfielder at the moment, and it remains to be seen whether they will meet Forest's eye-watering demands.
