What Man City bombshell means for Erling Haaland’s future

Manchester City supporters have every right to be worried over Erling Haaland's future at the Etihad Stadium.

Despite the Norwegian superstar being contracted until 2034, his time at the club has been thrown into darkness after the latest news.

Unless you've been living under a rock, the news of Man City facing 114 guilty charges from the Premier League will not come as a surprise.

Speaking to Football Insider, Keith Wyness, a former Premier League board member, has predicted the Citizens to be slapped with a 50-point deduction.

That would almost definitely ensure Man City's spot in the 2027-28 Championship table, instantly sparking questions around the current squad.

Enzo Maresca added £400million-worth of players to the squad over the summer, but there is no doubt that Haaland's remains the club's greatest asset.

Although Haaland has personal links to Man City through his dad, Alf-Inge, it seems highly unlikely that he would stick around for the club's demise.

The majority of fans have tipped the 26-year-old to become City's all-time leading goalscorer, needing 91 more to catch up with Sergio Aguero.

That no longer looks to be a possibility, with the Citizens potentially being handed a club-defining punishment from the authorities in the coming months.

Before his move to England in 2022, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and several Premier League clubs wanted to sign the centre-forward.

And as recently as this summer, Football Insider understood that Haaland had no plans to leave his boyhood club in the upcoming windows.

A huge twist was always going to emerge, and Football Insider have revealed that Arsenal and Real Madrid have already made contact with his representatives over a future move.

Barcelona remain interested in Man City superstar

Haaland won't be the only star considering his future, with Stefan Borson telling Football Insider that he expects a mass exodus should City be hit with a sporting sanction.

Any deal would have cost a fortune under normal circumstances, but as Man City deal with the worst-case scenario, he could quickly become a bargain.

With Real Madrid signing Kylian Mbappe in 2024, their La Liga rivals, Barcelona, would appear to be a more likely destination.

Football Insider revealed earlier this month that the Catalans have not lost interest in the superstar, and they would certainly make a move were Haaland to become available.

Interest from the Gunners certaintly throws a spanner in the works, though.
