Maguire: Man United well placed to seal world-record sponsor deal after talks begin

Manchester United are well placed to secure another world record sponsorship contract by December this year.

That is according to finance guru and Football Insider columnist Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively after The Sun revealed that the club are engaged in talks with multiple companies over a new shirt sponsorship deal.

Their current sponsorship agreement with American car manufacturer Chevrolet expires in December this year.

At £64million per season, the current deal is the most lucrative shirt sponsorship arrangement in world football.

Maguire expects that United could push the price upwards despite the financial challenges of the pandemic.

“If there is one club that has the capacity to sign amazing deals for front-of-shirt sponsorship, it’s Manchester United,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“They regularly remind us that they have 1.1billion followers. Any corporate entity that wants to get that number of eyeballs on their product is going to have to pay top-dollar. So if any club can negotiate upwards, it’s Manchester United.

“It’s a really challenging environment at present. In the US, Chevrolet have suffered due to the pandemic. They wouldn’t be particularly pleased if it wasn’t another Chevrolet deal.

“But there are other corporate entities who have been more successful over the course of the past 18 months on the back of the pandemic who will probably be more willing to sign a deal with United. They are a very attractive proposition.”

In their most recent set of financial reports, United proved that they were coping well with the pandemic’s financial impact.

Quarterly reports released earlier in March showed that they had made a £63.9m profit in the last three months of 2020 alone.

In other news, a top pundit claims Manchester United may receive up to £25m for Jesse Lingard in the summer.
