Victor Valdes is set to undergo a medical at Standard Liege on Saturday before completing a move to the Belgian club, Football Insider sources understand.

The Spanish goalkeeper, who sent a goodbye message to Manchester United fans on Thursday, is finally set to end his Old Trafford hell as he closes in on a loan switch until the end of the season.

As reported by Football Insider on Thursday, United and Standard Liege have agreed the terms of a loan deal.

Valdes gave a clear signal that his United career is over as he took to social media site Twitter on Thursday morning.

He Tweeted: “Thank you for your support during these months of hard work for me, i will never forget! See you soon!”

Standard Liege have offered Valdes an escape route from Old Trafford after he revealed last November that he was “fighting to be free” from the Premier League.

Valdes has been frozen out at by Louis van Gaal after refusing to play for United’s Under-21s last season.

The 33-year-old former Barcelona No1 signed an 18-month contract with the Premier League club a year ago but has made just two first-team appearances.

Valdes had been ostracised from the United first team set-up following Van Gaal’s decision not to take him on the tour of USA.

He has not featured this season and was overlooked at the start of the campaign in favour of Argentine Sergio Romero when David de Gea’s future was in doubt.
