Alex Scott: Man United plot move to sign Bournemouth star with another signing all but done

Published on

Alex Scott is firmly on the radar of Manchester United after he enjoyed a "fantastic" Premier League season for Bournemouth.

The 22-year-old has received high praise for his displays at the Vitality Stadium, and travelled to the USA as part of England's World Cup preparation squad.

Recognition from Thomas Tuchel has boosted the midfielder's reputation, while there is now growing interest from high-profile clubs looking to lure him away from Bournemouth.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Scott is firmly on Michael Carrick's radar, although there are doubts about whether they will make a move.

Instead, the Red Devils are looking for a different type of midfielder as they close in on the signing of Atalanta's Ederson, with more defensive-minded options on their list.

Could Man United make a move to sign Alex Scott?

Football Insider reported in April that Man United are interested in signing Scott and currently lead their Premier League rivals in the race for his signature.

Carrick is determined to strengthen his midfield options this summer following Casemiro's exit, while a lack of depth in the position has emerged as a concern.

However, Kobbie Mainoo's resurgence in the middle of the park has eased the need for a creative midfielder, with hard-working options now topping their list.

"Alex Scott is on Man United's radar, he's on a lot of top club's radars," Brown told Football Insider.

"He's gone away with England before the World Cup, which is a big endorsment from Thomas Tuchel and will enhance his reputation.

"But from what I'm told, I wouldn't expect to see them make a move for him at this moment, because he's not the type of midfielder they're currently looking for.

"They've agreed a deal for Ederson to come in from Atalanta, and he's an all-action, fiery midfielder who looks like he will be the replacement for Casemiro.

"They now want another midfielder as well as him, that's why they're being linked with Scott and other names who they have been impressed by.

"Kobbie Mainoo has come back into the side, Ederson will play alongisde him, then you've got Bruno Fernandes in front of them, Mason Mount at the club as well.

"But the type of midfielder they want to bring in now is somebody like Elliot Anderson. Somebody who will cover the ground, put in tackles and then progress the ball forward.

"Scott doesn't fit that bill, I don't think, so while he has been on their radar and I'm sure is somebody they are considering, I don't think they'll make a move for him right now."

How do Bournemouth feel about selling Scott?

Despite the growing interest in Scott from clubs in the Premier League and across Europe, Bournemouth are reluctant to lose their star player after a strong season.

Bournemouth transfer plans as new 'dilemma' emerges after securing Europa League football

The Cherries have qualified for next season's Europa League and hope to keep the majority of their squad in place to allow them to compete for silverware.

However, former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson told Football Insider that Bournemouth are at risk of losing players in a blow to their ambitious plans.

The Cherries could focus on European football, as winning the Europa League would provide a £35million boost, but that would be seen as a risky move.

Bournemouth feel major changes could be needed to compete on two fronts, but with players including Scott potentially leaving, they now face a dilemma.
