Antonee Robinson passed Man United audition with flying colours, Luke Shaw's in trouble

Manchester United could finally pull the trigger on a move for Fulham star Antonee Robinson after his latest exploits.

The Red Devils have had a long-standing interest in the USA international, way before Michael Carrick's arrival at Old Trafford.

Football Insider revealed in March that Man United had reignited their interest in the full-back, but a move never materialised during the summer.

Those behind the scenes may now regret that decision, with Robinson impressing during the 1-1 draw on Sunday, 20 September.

While Luke Shaw started all 38 of United's Premier League games in 2025-26, the 31-year-old lacks a lot of capabilities in the final third.

For context, Shaw has four assists to his name in the last four seasons, while Robinson has racked up 17 in the same period.

Although Fulham lost their clean sheet against United, and Robinson didn't quite get an attacking return, he was more than convincing against Bryan Mbeumo.

In 90 minutes, the 29-year-old completed 94 per cent of his passes, created two chances, and completed 67 per cent of his crosses [FotMob].

Defensively, the full-back made three tackles, two blocks and four recoveries, won 67 per cent of his ground duels, and won two fouls.

Carrick desperately needs to reinvest in his backline, even as soon as January. The same back four started the 4-0 defeat to Brentford in 2022.

The signings of Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt haven't worked in the slightest, but Man United can begin the fix by signing Robinson.

Who else could Man United target?

If Man United are hoping to save cash in January, giving 19-year-old Harry Amass more minutes is a bargain option at Old Trafford.

Alternatively, Football Insider understands that Tyrick Mitchell is a target, with Crystal Palace trying to keep hold of the 27-year-old.

He has already twice in six games and had one ruled out against Leeds United, so his stocks will be through the roof at Selhurst Park.

Several aspects of the squad need upgrading, as previously stated, but the left-back position could have an easy solution in the coming months.
