Manchester United are plotting a move to sign West Ham United duo Crysencio Summerville and Mateus Fernandes in a double deal.

After West Ham suffered relegation from the Premier League last time out, they are at risk of losing a number of key players, with top sides from across Europe circling.

Man United are now well-placed to make moves for two players, with Michael Carrick keen to strengthen out wide and in central midfield before pre-season starts.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Fernandes and Summerville both rank highly on Man United's list of transfer targets.

West Ham's financial situation means they are vulerable to offers, and while they have placed significant price tags on both star players, they may be unable to prevent their exits.

A double deal for both players to link up at Old Trafford could now be on the cards, and while the moves would be seperate, United are strongly considering both.

What is the latest on Mateus Fernandes to Man United?

Football Insider exclusively reavealed on 21 June that Man United have already agreed personal terms with Fernandes and are making progress towards a full agreement.

The 21-year-old central midfielder is expected to leave West Ham this summer, and Man United have now emerged as the clear favourites for his signature.

There is still work to do to reach a full agreement, particularly with regard to his price tag, but Man United are now working towards an agreement with West Ham.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "As a result of West Ham going down and their need to balance the books, they will have to look to cash in on Summerville.

"West Ham are resigned to losing a number of key players this summer, and Mateus Fernandes and Summerville are probably the two most high profile players that could be on the move as well.

"Man United are potentially looking to sign both of them from West Ham and they have them on their list of targets this summer.

"United are very much interested in Summerville a lot will come down to the price, and it will be a similar case for Fernandes and whether they can agree a deal between the clubs."

West Ham forced to accept Crysencio Summerville offer in bid to 'balance the books'

Could Man United make a move to sign Crysencio Summerville?

While United now appear to be edging closer towards a deal for Fernandes, their pursuit of Summerville is not as far advanced, despite being extremely keen.

Carrick's side have been keeping a close eye on the winger's progress both in the Premier League and now at the World Cup where he has shone with the Netherlands.

Football Insider revealed on 19 June that West Ham could be forced to sell Summerville in an attempt to balance their books, and Man United are now well-placed to swoop.

The winger has scored two goals in two games at the World Cup, putting himself firmly in the shop window and attracting attention from across Europe.

West Ham are expected to demand a fee of around £50m for Summerville, and whether or not United are willing to pay remains to be seen.
