Harry Maguire has sent a message to Kieran Trippier after the defender made his home debut for Wolves on Friday.

The 35-year-old signed for the Championship side on a free transfer at the start of the summer, and featured throughout as they beat Port Vale 3-0 in the first round of the Carabao Cup at Molineux Stadium.

The defender left Newcastle United at the end of the season and was keen for a fresh start, although his time in the Midlands got off to an uncertain start.

Rob Edwards had been the manager to bring Trippier to Wolves, but he was unexpectedly sacked just a few days after that move had been confirmed, with Cesar Peixoto replacing him.

There had even been some talk that the former Tottenham man would back out of the deal following the news, but with contracts already signed, the possibility always felt far-fetched.

Now, with the feeling of positivity back around Molineux Stadium, Tripper is focused on starting the season in the right way.

Trippier was a big loss for Newcastle, and he is a massive gain for a Wolves squad set for a difficult season.

Last season was an incredibly painful one at Molineux, and this season could be just as gruelling.

The Championship is absurdly tough and hard on the players, considering just how many games there are to play.

While the Premier League is more difficult in quality, the second tier is undoubtedly more physically demanding over the course of the season.

Wolves will have to adapt, and it will help to have a player with the experience of Trippier on their side.
