Insider: This is how Bruno Fernandes feels about new Man United contract

Bruno Fernandes is happy at Manchester United with plans now in place to hold talks over a contract extension.

The 32-year-old's current deal is set to expire next summer, and while the club hold the option to extend by a year, they are planning to offer him a new longer-term deal.

His performances since Michael Carrick arrived have established him as a crucial part of the manager's plans as he continues to provide a talismanic presence in midfield.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that the club are desperate to get Fernandes tied down amid a feeling that he is keen to extend his deal.

The Portugal international is enjoying life at Old Trafford, and another strong season both domestically and in Europe could be enough to convince him to stay.

However, they are also aware of interest elsewhere, with clubs in Saudi Arabia and Turkey having been keen to lure him away from Old Trafford during the summer window.

Will Man United hand Bruno Fernandes a new contract?

Football Insider revealed on 4 September that Man United are planning to accelerate contract talks with Fernandes after he entered the final year of his current deal.

He received high recognition at the PFA Awards last month, winning the Player of the Season after breaking the assist record, handing United a boost in their negotiations.

Fernandes is believed to be keen to remain at the club where he has enjoyed such success in the last 12 months, as he looks to continue his fine form under Carrick's guidance.

"From what I've heard, Bruno Fernandes would be happy to stay at Man United," Brown told Football Insider.

"Look at how he's performed since Michael Carrick came in, it's clear he's getting the best out of him, and he has been such a crucial part in all of the progress they have made.

"If he keeps playing at this high level, getting goals and assists most weeks, I see no reason why he would be looking to move on.

"There's obviously going to be interest from clubs willing to offer him a lot of money to move away, but he's having one of the best spells of his career at Man United.

"He will want to continue that, and he'll want to see United continue to make progress in the Premier League and now in the Champions League as well.

"If that happens, I have no doubts he will sign a new contract, because it's certainly something the club is working on and they want to get it done."

Which clubs are interested in signing Fernandes?

Man United's decision to accelerate contract talks with Fernandes comes as they hope to deter interest from elsewhere, with rivals keeping a close eye on his situation.

During the summer, the attacking midfielder was linked with moves to clubs including Galatasaray and even Bayern Munich at one stage, but there is also interest elsewhere.

Football Insider revealed on 7 September that Saudi Pro League clubs are continuing to monitor Fernandes' contract situation in case he becomes open to moving on.

Clubs in the Middle East have been keen on Fernandes for years after Al Hilal came close to signing him before he turned down the move to stay at Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, the Saudi Pro League transfer window is open until 12 October, and there have been suggestions a move could be made ahead of their deadline day.
