Man United fans have urged Michael Carrick to promote Harry Amass to the first team and avoid a big-money move for Lewis Hall after he impressed in their latest friendly.

Carrick has made it clear that he wants to bolster his left-back options this summer in preparation for their return to the Champions League.

The Red Devils have been linked to a whole host of signings in the position to compete with Shaw, with Hall being one of their most prevalent targets.

Newcastle are keen to keep hold of their left-back starlet as several of Eddie Howe's key men depart this summer.

United have set their sights on a move before the window closes, but now their supporters want to see youngster Amass given a real chance in the coming season.

The 19-year-old impressed fans with a stellar second-half showing in their 5-0 friendly win against Rosenborg on Friday.

Amass spent last season out on loan at both Sheffield Wednesday and Norwich City, but endured contrasting fortunes either side of the winter window.

He shone in the first half of the season with the struggling Owls, registering a goal and an assist each in 21 appearances in his first senior loan spell.

Norwich won the race for his services in January as they chased a play-off place, but he picked up a serious hamstring injury just days after his debut for the club and missed the rest of the campaign.

Amass has returned to full fitness to be involved in Carrick's pre-season plans, and he scored and registered an assist after coming on at half-time against Rosenborg on Friday.

Many fans took to X after the clash to insist that he should be given a proper chance in the coming season, as opposed to Hall being signed for a hefty fee.

One United fan wrote: "I think it's worth having a punt on Harry Amass this season instead of overspending on Lewis Hall."

While another said: "Amass is ready for promotion. What's the need taking a rush of £70m for Hall when they can introduce Amass gradually."

And one supporter wrote: "I am leaving the idea of Hall behind. Go for an elite LW and integrate Amass in the squad. Pretty sure he is going to be the next big thing in left-backs."

What is the latest on Man United's interest in Hall?

Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that United are set to accelerate a move for Hall in the coming weeks, as Carrick rates him highly.

He may well re-evaluate his options after Amass' latest showing, however, with Patrick Dorgu also an option at left-back for the coming campaign.

Dorgu has been touted to play further forward next season, but the club may instead prioritise a big-name left-wing capture so he can feature more often in Carrick's back four.

Hall is believed to be open to moving to Old Trafford, but Newcastle will stand firm against an exit.
