Man United Insider shares how club feel about Michael Carrick's mixed start to season
Michael Carrick still has the full backing of the Manchester United board despite frustrations after a slow start to the season.
Man United approached the season with optimism following last year's Champions League qualification, and Carrick is still being heavily backed after his successful spell.
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that any calls for Carrick to be sacked in the near future are "stupid" and will not have any impact on the club's plans.
Having impressed during his interim spell last season, Carrick has plenty of credit in the bank, with the board willing to give him time to build on his positive plans.
While results haven't been the best at this early stage of the season, there have been no concerns about any long-term issues which might force the club into a decision.
Are Man United planning to back Michael Carrick?
Brown warned Football Insider on 17 August that Man United could have a slow start to the season after questions were asked over their difficult pre-season schedule.
However, following the end of the summer transfer window, the focus is now on what Carrick can achieve with his current crop of players, with the club supporting his ideas.
Despite what has proved to be a slow start to the new season, Carrick is not expected to come under any extreme pressure, despite some frustrations being voiced.
"I haven't seen anything to make me concerned or to be asking questions of," Brown told Football Insider.
"Okay, the results against Hull and Everton weren't the best, but these results can happen in isolation. Hull were really up for that game, and Everton scored late on.
"Man United have weakenesses in their squad, that's for sure, and they showed in both of those games, but I don't see how anybody can point the finger at the manager for it.
"You often get stupid calls for managers to be let go or for there to be questioned asked of their positions, but as far as Man United are concerned, Carrick is doing a good job.
"He took over when they were in a bit of a state and got them into the Champions League, that has earned him his place as the manager and he will be given time.
"There's certainly not going to be any pressure on his position for now, because they want to stick with him, back him, and give him time to put together a consistent run.
"So the noise from outside of the club, and any suggestions he could be sacked, will have no impact on the decisions they make."
What do Man United have planned for the future?
As part of Man United's plans to stick by Carrick for the long-term future, plans are already being put in place to strengthen his squad in the transfer windows in 2027.
This comes as the Red Devils targeted a number of positions in their squad this summer, but ultimately settled to pull off a midfield overhaul, and will look at other roles next year.
Football Insider revealed on 7 September that Man United have delayed their pursuit of a new left-back until next summer, when they plan to address their defence.
For now, there is a belief that Luke Shaw can continue as the first-choice left-back under Carrick without any major issues in the position.
Man United are continuing to track the progress of Lewis Hall, who has just put pen to paper on a new contract at Newcastle, and could renew their interest next summer.
