Man United should prioritise signing Bournemouth's Tyler Adams over Fulham midfielder Sander Berge - and the deep-level stats show why.

Michael Carrick is focusing on adding quality to his midfield options this summer following Casemiro's departure at the end of his contract.

The Red Devils have already moved to sign Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos this summer, but want to add another midfielder to Carrick's ranks.

Adams and Berge have each been linked to the club in the past, and they both remain on the radar of United as cheaper alternatives to other targets.

Both players have established themselves as Premier League regulars over recent seasons, at Bournemouth and Fulham respectively.

Many United supporters want the club to spend big, but the stats show that Adams would be the wisest addition to their ranks this summer as they make plans to agree a cut-price deal.

Tyler Adams is a better option for Man United than Sander Berge

Adams has been key to Bournemouth's rise under Andoni Iraola in the last two seasons, after an injury-hit debut campaign saw him limited to just four appearances.

The USA international played 26 times last season to help the Cherries achieve Europa League qualification, and impressed throughout despite recurring minor injury issues.

TalkSPORT have reported that lists Adams and Fulham star Berge as two of the Red Devils' top midfield targets as it stands.

Sources have revealed to Football Insider that Carrick greatly admires Aurelien Tchouameni, but a move to sign him is proving to be too expensive this summer.

With the decision potentially set to come down to the two Premier League stars, it is clear that United should prioritise Adams' signature over Berge.

He is a year younger, at 27, and would come cheaper as his contract is set to expire in 2028, as opposed to 2029 with a one-year extension option.

Adams played 1100 less minutes than Berge last season, yet registered three more goal contributions and missed three fewer big chances than the Norway international.

Berge was a more accurate passer and tackler, yet Adams emerged with better dribbling and long balls per 90 stats.

The Cherries star also proved to have better stats for clearances, headed clearances, interceptions and possession won in the final third per 90, so would clearly be a better option to sign this summer.

'The name I keep hearing...' - Man United move for top priority signing revealed

Adams has already hinted at wanting to move to Man United

Adams would clearly be open to joining the Red Devils, and may well invite their interest this summer after what he told the Men in Blazers podcast about the injury he picked up at Old Trafford in December.

He said: "I’m in a good spot. There was a longer timetable on the injury when it first happened, but I’ve come back a little bit earlier. It wasn’t ideal. You dream of nights playing at Old Trafford against Man United. Those are the biggest games you can play in the Premier League, and something like that happens."

Adams would surely jump at the chance to become part of Carrick's squad for the season ahead, and should be their main midfield target in the lower bracket of price tags.
