Man United's chances of signing Lewis Hall next year revealed

Man United remain interested in signing Lewis Hall next year after missing out on a deal in the recent window, sources have told Football Insider.

Michael Carrick identified left-back as a priority position to bolster ahead of the recently-shut summer transfer window.

United were keen to land Newcastle star Hall, having been impressed by his consistently strong showings last season.

They failed to proceed past registering their interest in his services, and decided against signing a new left-back before the deadline passed on Tuesday.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, the Red Devils will continue to track Hall's progress ahead of a possible move next summer.

They are not likely to bolster the position in the January window, with Carrick confirming that Patrick Dorgu will provide back up to Shaw for this campaign.

Hall registered three goal contributions in 46 appearances last season despite suffering from recurring injury woes.

He has started this season in strong form as Matthias Jaissle's first choice left-back, with his stock only likely to rise over the next nine months.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "They were interested in Lewis Hall in the summer transfer window, but Newcastle were adamant that he wasn't for sale, and I'm sure United will continue to keep tabs on him.

"There was even links with Myles Lewis-Skelly as well for left-back, but Arsenal didn't really want to entertain offers for him.

"Hall, we’ll see where he stands at Newcastle (next summer), but he'll still remain a target no doubt about that, and I'm sure there'll be other players they'll be looking at as well for a left-back who can come in and become the first choice there to replace Luke Shaw at some point."

Man United to trigger Bruno Fernandes contract extension

United will now be focusing on sorting out any in-house issues following the close of the transfer window.

Fernandes entered the final year of his Red Devils contract in June, but the club do hold the option to extend his deal by another year.

Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that United will trigger that option in Fernandes' contract to heighten their chances of agreeing a long-term deal with him.
