Manchester United supporters have used footage of Amadou Onana against him following Aston Villa's defeat at Old Trafford.

Michael Carrick's side were favourites to claim victory on Sunday, 15 March, and for very good reason. Man United have been in much better form, but the Villans have an awful record at the stadium.

Unsurprisingly, the Red Devils opened the scoring, with Casemiro rising highest to head home, before Ross Barkley evened up the scores. Goals from Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko made all the difference, though.

Man United claimed an important three points, moving them into third in the Premier League and away from Unai Emery's side, before making sure to rub salt into the wounds on social media.

Man United fans use Amadou Onana's celebration against him

Onana nearly played a key role in Villa's surprise result at Old Trafford, having a good effort saved by Senne Lammens before just about getting out of the way of Barkley's goal.

The Belgian international has become famous at Villa Park for his post-match celebrations, shoving three fingers into his coat pocket to signify a win, with that footage now coming back to haunt the player.

One supporter even asked, "How many points are Aston Villa behind Man United, Amadou Onana?" with the Red Devils now pulling three points clear of their opponents in the Premier League standings.

  • @EzzyMUFC: "Never celebrate too early against the red devils," with two devil emojis.
  • @lahreeblizz: "They don’t learn," with a laughing emoji.
  • @chiragcp1982: "Don’t get hype about Onana at Villa. He is good cm, but he’s not this great player people always harp on about."

Unai Emery to be concerned by Aston Villa star's performance

Despite nearly scoring Villa's first, just before Barkley's strike, it was an underwhelming performance from the 24-year-old midfielder, and his stats certainly prove it.

Keith Wyness told Football Insider that Man United have a "good chance" of signing Onana, but some of the hierarchy are likely to be rethinking that specific transfer target ahead of the summer window.

Despite getting a shot on target and creating a chance, the battling midfielder only won 25 per cent of his ground duels, lost both of his aerial duels, was dribbled past once and failed to complete a dribble [FotMob].

It was certainly not the greatest of auditions at Old Trafford, and now, he has become the butt of United's joke. The club need to find Casemiro's replacement soon, but it is unlikely to be the Villa man.
