Man United fans rip into 'one of the worst players to ever wear the jersey' after his display vs Brighton

Manchester United suffered a shock defeat in the Carabao Cup third round on Wednesday as Brighton and Hove Albion came from behind to win 3-2 at Old Trafford.

Despite going 2-0 up after 10 minutes, Michael Carrick’s side completely collapsed in the cup in what was a woeful performance.

Pressure has not significantly increased on the manager, with the Red Devils’ campaign to date being extremely poor.

Many players have been slammed for their performance against the Seagulls, with Diogo Dalot being heavily criticised by the fanbase.

The right-back was part of a backline that simply could not handle Brighton, with the hosts perhaps fortunate not to have conceded more goals.

Overall, the 27-year-old did little right, which has resulted in many supporters questioning his ability.

Diogo Dalot struggles vs Brighton

While many Man United players were awful against Brighton, Dalot was one of the worst players on the pitch.

The defender simply could not withstand the Seagulls’ attacks and proved to be a vulnerable weak spot for them to exploit.

This is not the first time this has happened, with Dalot not exactly having a great start to the 2026-27 campaign.

As a result, many Man United fans have now taken to X to slam the defender’s performance as the club once again exited the Carabao Cup early.

How bad was Dalot vs Brighton?

When examining Dalot’s stats against the Seagulls, they are pretty concerning.

According to Fotmob on 17 September, the defender completed 82 per cent of his passes, created zero chances, completed one out of five long-ball passes, was dispossessed once, made two tackles, zero blocks, three interceptions and won two out of four ground duels.

As a result, Dalot proved to be unreliable at the back and had no impact up top throughout the match.

Therefore, it would be of little surprise if Carrick opted to drop the defender for Man United’s match against Fulham on Sunday, with this now being a must-win fixture.

However, it remains to be seen if Dalot and Man United are able to bounce back from Wednesday’s defeat, with the club no doubt under serious pressure after the shock result at Old Trafford.
