Mauricio Pochettino 'makes up his mind' on next move after Tottenham and Man United 'interest'

Mauricio Pochettino is prepared to delay a return to the Premier League despite long-term interest from Man United and Tottenham.

Currently in charge of the USA national team, the former Spurs boss was heavily linked with both roles before the appointments of Michael Carrick and Roberto De Zerbi.

Both clubs remain strong admirers of his and have him on a list of long-term suitors should anything go wrong with their current options.

However, former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Pochettino is prepared to snub Premier League interest in favour of singing a new contract with the USA.

The USMNT boss has worked wonders since his appointment, and enjoyed a strong World Cup campaign in which he led his side to the Round of 16, where they were defeated by Belgium.

Despite having planned to return to Premier League football one day, those plans have been put on ice for now, with his new deal set to run until 2030.

What is the latest on Mauricio Pochettino's contract?

Former Spurs scout Bryan King told Football Insider that Pochettino should have resigned from his position in the wake of the controversy surrounding Folarin Balogun.

However, that was never a realistic possibility, with the United States Soccer Federation always keen to keep the highly-regarded boss around for the foreseeable future.

They now look set to get their wish, with Pochettino prepared to commit his long-term future to the USMNT and snub any lingering interest from the Premier League.

"I hear Pochettino is going to stay with the USA after the World Cup," Brown told Football Insider.

"He's done a really good job there, they were very impressive at the tournament and they made it deeper than many people had expected before it started.

"The only way I could see him leaving his job there is if one of the Premier League clubs decided to make a move, because he's been keen on a return for a while.

"Man United and Tottenham were both looking at him before they made their current appointments, and he's still going to be on the list for those clubs.

"If, for any reason, they were to part ways with Carrick or De Zerbi, he could have been somebody they considered, but he's prepared to reject that idea now.

"It looks like he will commit his future to the USA, which they will be delighted with, and those clubs will have to look elsewhere if there are changes in their managers."

Was Pochettino a target for Premier League clubs?

Pochettino has long been admired by Premier League clubs since his outstanding job with Tottenham, despite what later proved to be a rocky spell in charge of Chelsea.

Spurs have remained long-term admirers of his, as have Man United, but both clubs moved for other options as they did not want to wait until after the World Cup.

This comes after Brown told Football Insider that Pochettino is being eyed by a number of Premier League clubs with plans to tempt him back to English football.

However, all possible vacancies have already been filled this summer barring any surprise twists, and any approach would likely have arrived mid-way through the season.

Instead of waiting around, Pochettino has opted to extend his stay in international football, putting to rest any suggestions of a return to the Premier League.
