Noussair Mazraoui has proven that Man United do not need to sign a new left-back this summer after impressing there for Morocco in the World Cup.

Mazraoui saw game time hard to come by at Old Trafford last season due to injury concerns and the strong form of other players.

Luke Shaw was a constant at left-back under Michael Carrick, while Diogo Dalot regularly started at right-back too.

The Morocco star shrugged off any fitness issues to make their World Cup squad, and has been impressive for his country so far.

Mazraoui shone in the Atlas Lions' win in the round of 32 against the Netherlands in the early hours of Tuesday morning while starting at left-back.

The Red Devils reportedly want to sign a new left-back to compete with Shaw next season, but may not need to.

Carrick should have taken notice of his performances in North America so far, especially his role in knocking the Netherlands out of the tournament.

Achraf Hakimi is Morocco's captain and key man, meaning he starts every game, so Mazraoui is often forced to play on the left of a back four for his country.

He has done so a handful of times for United in the last few seasons, but really seems to have made the position his own at this World Cup.

Following strong showings against Brazil and Scotland, he put in his best performance of the tournament so far to help Morocco knock the Netherlands out on penalties.

The 28-year-old won the most tackles (4), made the most clearances (12), made the most defensive contributions (19), had the highest ground duel success (100 per cent) and won the joint-most duels (9) of every player to feature at the Monterrey Stadium.

He stayed on for the full 120 minutes and even made 10 passes into the final third, winning plaudits online for his performance.

If he can shine like that at left-back on the world stage, then there is surely nothing stopping him doing so for United next season.

Carrick is believed to want to add to his left-back depth next season, but Mazraoui looks ready to challenge Shaw for his starting spot, so a new right-back may be a wiser addition.

Lewis Hall: Man United set sights on Newcastle star as transfer 'priority' revealed

Which left-backs have Man United been linked to?

Patrick Dorgu can also feature at left-back, but reports have stated that Carrick sees him as a left winger following some impressive attacking displays last season.

Sources have told Football Insider that the Red Devils have prioritised signing Lewis Hall amid talk that he could be sold by Newcastle.

Barcelona's Alejandro Balde has also been linked to Old Trafford, but previous target Nathaniel Brown is set to join Bayern Munich soon following Germany's World Cup exit.
