Sources: Man United plot new Jarrad Branthwaite move after 'derisory' offer rejected
Manchester United are keeping a close eye on Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite's performances, sources have told Football Insider.
The 24-year-old has been a standout under David Moyes so far this season and has now been included in Thomas Tuchel's most recent England squad ahead of the international break.
Thise performances have attracted renewed interest from Michael Carrick's side, who have been long-term admirers of the centre-back for at least two years now.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Man United could return with a fresh move for Branthwaite after seseing a "derisory" offer rejected in 2024.
Carrick is keen to add defensive reinforcements to his squad in 2027 as a result of what has been a difficult start to the season where they look far from stable at the back.
Branthwaite's performances for Everton have placed him firmly back on Man United's radar as a result, and they are weighing up whether to make a new move next summer.
Could Man United move to sign Jarrad Branthwaite?
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 15 September that Man United could reignite their interest in Branthwaite as part of a defensive overhaul.
The Old Trafford recruitment team hold the England international in high regard after he has impressed in recent years for Everton, and could now reignite that interest.
If Branthwaite continues his recent form both for Everton and England, there is a chance Man United could look to lure him away with a new offer.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "It wouldn't be a surprise if they did reignite their interest because they're long-term admirers of Branthwaite.
"They tried to sign him in the summer of 2024. They had a couple of derisory offers rejected for him that Everton felt were not good enough at the time.
"Everton are wary of potential interest from other clubs like Manchester United, even Manchester City and there's been talk of maybe interest from abroad as well.
"Everton aren't in any real panic over his future, he's under a long-term contract, but if he keeps up his recent performances then that interest is bound to be there."
How do Everton feel about losing Branthwaite?
Whether or not Man United can pull off a deal for Branthwaite next summer will largely depend on how Everton feel about the centre-back's role in their squad.
Moyes is a big fan of his, and he has established himself as a key part of the starting XI this season, despite recent injury issues leading to some concerns.
Brown told Football Insider in April that Man United had backed off from signing Branthwaite as a result of those fitness concerns after multiple long-term injuries last season.
The centre-back missed 31 games across all competitions in the 2025-26 season, with multiple hamstring injuries sparking concerns about his long-term fitness.
However, he is now back in the Everton side and playing a crucial role, with the club hoping he will remain in his position for the foreseeable future.
