Manchester United have been told it will take a "huge" offer to lure Murillo away from Nottingham Forest, sources have told Football Insider.

The 24-year-old has been a long-term target for the Red Devils, who are now considering reigniting their interest as they aim to bolster their defensive options.

Any move for the Brazil international is highly unlikely to take place in January, while Nottingham Forest are reluctant to sell and will stick by their lofty price tag.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Murillo is high on Man United's list of defensive targets but a deal will not be easy to do.

Michael Carrick is aiming to overhaul his defence in 2027, with the recruitment team now focusing on bringing new centre-backs and a left-back to Old Trafford.

Murillo has impressed during his time at Nottingham Forest, and remains a key part of Oliver Glasner's side, but Man United may now be ready to test their resolve.

Could Man United move to sign Murillo?

Football Insider first revealed back in 2024 that Man United were keeping tabs on Murillo's situation at Nottingham Forest, and two years later, they could reignite that interest.

The centre-back has emerged among a number of targets for Carrick's side as they put long-term transfer plans in place, with a focus on next summer's window rather than January.

Nottingham Forest's reluctance to sell could be an obstacle, however, as he remains on a long-term contract and his club are under no financial pressure to sell.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "Murillo has been a previous target for Manchester United because of how well he's done for Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.

"It looks like he is going to be high on their list again because they do want to strengthen in his position, and he is somebody they are very much aware of.

"It'll be a really difficult deal to do because he only signed a new long-term deal last May to keep him at the City Ground until 2030.

"I can't see anything happening in January because Forest don't need the money at the moment and he's a very important player for them.

"So they are ready to put a big price tag on Murillo's head because of his contract situation at the City Ground, and it would take a huge offer if they were to consider letting him go."

Nottingham Forest to accept 'silly offer' only for Murillo as Evangelos Marinakis signs off on terms

How do Nottingham Forest feel about losing Murillo?

Nottingham Forest have been keen to stand firm over their best players in recent years, with controversial owner Evangelos Marinakis determined to keep his squad strong.

That stance is expected to be no different with Murillo, especially given the club are under no immediate pressure to sell given his long-term contract.

Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider in May that Nottingham Forest were set to demand "silly money" for Murillo during the summer transfer window.

There are no plans for Forest to lose any more key players following Elliot Anderson's record-breaking move to Man City, which was an offer they felt they couldn't reject.

It will now take a similarly huge fee to prise Murillo away, which could deter Man United and his other high-profile suitors from making a move.
