Stefan Borson explains what Man United's new stadium plan means for financing 'immediate' signing spree

Manchester United's transfer spending is "totally different" to the club's new and exciting plans for the New Old Trafford Stadium.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that the two areas of the club have two "separate boxes" when it comes to finances.

The Red Devils have taken huge strides towards the building of their new stadium, with the land needed acquired near the current Old Trafford.

Current focus remains on improving Michael Carrick's squad ahead of the 2026-27 campaign, though, with early deals done for Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans.

Borson has already told Football Insider that he expected United to complete one "big" signing before the summer is over, but it remains to be seen who that could be.

More spending would certainly raise questions about where so much funding is coming from, especially when the Red Devils need to be saving for the building of a new stadium.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson explained the differences between purchases, and why United's transfers have taken precedent.

"They've got to put it into two separate boxes. The stadium project is an enormous infrastructure project that'll be funded at some point over the next ten years," he said.

"And then you've got the immediate need to strengthen the side in advance of a season that starts in four weeks' time, or whatever it is.

"So they're just totally different categories of spending. I think United have been cautious anyway in terms of the level of spend.

"I think it's a fairly moderate spend so far. They'll feel as though they got very good value for both of those players."

Who else could Michael Carrick sign this summer?

The latest report from Football Insider, via ex-scout Mick Brown, states that Man United could sign Djed Spence following displays at the World Cup.

Carrick's side have also been linked with moves for Crystal Palace's Ismaila Sarr, Nottingham Forest's Neco Williams and Roma's Manu Kone.

All three would make a huge difference to the current squad, but it remains to be seen just how much more the manager is going to splash this summer.

Of course, supporters are excited about the new stadium being erected, but the needle is unlikely to be moved for a few years yet.
