Stefan Borson reveals how much it will cost Man United to sign Bruno Fernandes' replacement
Manchester United will face an incredibly difficult task of replacing Bruno Fernandes when the time comes at Old Trafford.
That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that the playmaker's replacement is likely to cost upwards of £100million.
Recently, the latest news around his future had been that the club wanted to extend the 32-year-old's contract, which is set to expire at the end of the season.
Of course, the Red Devils have the option to extend his deal, with the club believed to be in lengthy talks with the player over his situation.
Fernandes remains a target for several Saudi Pro League clubs, and the rumours are growing stronger after his very recent public outburst.
The captain openly criticised his teammates and Michael Carrick's tactics after the defeat to Como in the Champions League, with some now believing this is his final season in England.
Bruno Fernandes' era is 'coming to an end'
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson believes that United will struggle to find his replacement for anything less than £100m.
"He's going to be 33 soon. So whatever happens, the Bruno Fernandes era is coming to an end as being a dominant, key player," he said.
"And he's going to have to be replaced. And it's very unlikely that United are going to be able to find a player of his quality for less than £100million.
"Each time it just keeps coming back to money and the investment that's going to be required."
Has Michael Carrick lost the dressing room?
Fernandes is not the only player to publicly hit out at the situation, either, with Lisandro Martinez voicing his frustrations at the hierarchy.
The Argentine defender went much further than the captain, criticising INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe about the lack of investment on the pitch.
As a result, Martinez could now find himself on the departure list ahead of the January window, and he could soon be joined by Fernandes.
The Portuguese star has been key for Man United over the years, but he's not getting any younger. Now might be the time to cash in.
