Stefan Borson shares if the 'market's gone crazy' after unexpected Man United signing
Manchester United signing Andrey Santos for £48million is not "out of kilter" from transfers during previous summer windows.
That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that claims the "market's gone crazy" are wide of the mark.
Three years on from his £15m move to Chelsea, the 22-year-old will now play his football under Michael Carrick, earning a move across the Premier League.
Minutes have not been the simplest to come across at Stamford Bridge, starting just 13 Premier League games in 2025-26, so a move makes sense for the Brazilian.
Supporters have questioned the price tag attached to Santos, though, with the Red Devils historically known for overpaying in the transfer market.
With huge deals for the likes of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes already be confirmed, however, it seems like a bargain compared to those players.
Andrey Santos transfer fee 'in the ballpark'
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson has denied the claims that Santos' deal is excessive, while also hitting back at fans suggesting that the transfer market has "gone crazy".
"If you look at Andrey Santos, it's in the ballpark. He's got plenty of experience. He's highly rated, and [they signed him] for £48m," he said.
"It feels like the right sort of typical price. I don't think there's evidence that people are claiming that the market's gone crazy.
"There's a lot of fuss being made about transfer fees, but I don't think they're particularly out of kilter with previous seasons.
"And I think we'll also see that in the second half of the transfer window, when teams try and clear out the squad members that they don't want...
"You'll see that it's going to be very hard for teams to get big money for these players."
What has Santos said about signing for Man United?
With Casemiro leaving on a free transfer and Manuel Ugarte injured for most of the upcoming season, signing a new midfielder was vital.
Speaking upon signing, Santos said: “Everything about Manchester United is special; it is an incredible feeling to join a club that some of my biggest idols have represented.
“As a midfielder, I am really excited to have the opportunity to learn from Michael Carrick, he is the perfect coach to help me take the next step in my career."
With Youri Tielemans incoming from Aston Villa on a £35m deal as well, Carrick is making some interesting moves in an attempt to rebuild the squad ahead of next season.
