'These are the five Man United players who will stop them winning the Premier League'

Michael Carrick is the perfect manager for Manchester United because he will not publicly complain about the board.

That is the opinion of experienced former Tottenham, Everton and Aston Villa scout, Bryan King, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.

The 45-year-old would have been well within his rights to show his frustration over a disappointing summer window on Sunday but chose to bite his tongue.

It has been a slow start to the season for the Red Devils after a summer that many were ultimately disappointed by.

Man United stocked their midfield extensively with the signings of Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and Carlos Baleba, but have left significant gaps elsewhere in the squad.

Manchester United 'will not win the Premier League'

When Carrick led his team to the top after his appointment in January, there was an expectation that Man United would back him significantly.

The 45-year-old had got his team playing brilliant football, but the introduction of Champions League football would call for a far larger squad.

But the summer ultimately proved frustrating. Man United searched for a left-back throughout the window but failed to sign one, and have not addressed concerns on the wings or at centre-back, either.

"They will not win the Premier League. They've got some good players, but I think four defenders and with the goalkeeper, I don't think that's good enough to win the Premier League", King told Football Insider.

"I don't know about [Carrick] being let down. I just think that he might have been expecting more to come into the football club than what's come in, to be honest. But, you know, he works his way.

"He's very quiet. He doesn't say too much. And to be fair, he's a football club's dream, isn't he, really? As long as you get the results. I thought they were a bit fortunate against Ipswich, to be honest, and certainly against Everton. I mean, that would have been a good result."

What has Michael Carrick said about the transfer window?

Injuries are already proving troublesome for Man United this season, with Amad Diallo and Baleba suffering from issues.

Yet Carrick has remained confident in his team, with plenty of positives to take from their opening three games.

"We certainly feel we can compete. The challenge is getting the right dynamics, the right balance and the right group together. It is about getting the best players in the group to enhance everyone else and adding experience or younger players where needed," he said last week.

"Money can be a big thing, but it does not always have to be the answer, but it can be. It is up to us to do the work and get the best out of the group. We have a fantastic group of players who have proved they can put results together, play well and win in all sorts of different places and environments.

"We’ve got to keep doing it in the end. We have strengthened from last season and finished really strongly, so we are positive about where we can get to, realistic from where we have been, but we know where we want to get to and we’re positive that we can.”
