Exclusive: Man United star Radek Vitek undergoing Middlesbrough medical
Manchester United goalkeeper Radek Vitek is undergoing a medical at Middlesbrough on Thursday after agreeing terms, sources have told Football Insider.
The 22-year-old is in the process of finalising his move to Teeside, with the deal now in its final stages before confirmation.
Vitek will join the Championship promotion hopefuls on a permanent deal, after Kim Hellberg's side fought off heavy competition for the starlet and had a bid accepted.
The Czech stopper made his desire to leave Old Trafford clear earlier this summer, and has since been linked with a whole host of clubs.
Vitek was on the radar of several Championship sides as well as Scottish Premiership champions Celtic, but it is Middlesbrough who are set to win the race.
The United academy graduate impressed with 12 clean sheets in his loan spell at Bristol City last season, and is now set to move on for good.
Middlesbrough solve goalkeeping issue with Radek Vitek
Middlesbrough have been in the market for a new goalkeeper since the start of the summer, and have been working hard to find a replacement for Sol Brynn.
Hellberg and Co. have been pushing to find a new number one, and they are now on the verge of securing that with Vitek.
The youngster has never played a competitive senior game for United, but has developed significant experience across a series of loan spells.
His time with Bristol City saw him make great strides last season, while he has also previously had stints with Accrington Stanley and Austrian Bundesliga side Linz.
The Riverside Stadium looks set to become his new home on a permanent basis, with little now standing in the way of his move to the North East.
Vitek had previously been earmarked for a big future at Old Trafford, but it will now be Middlesbrough where he makes his next strides as a player.
Middlesbrough agree deal for Ashley Phillips
Football Insider revealed on Tuesday that Middlesbrough were also in advanced talks to sign Tottenham defender Ashley Phillips.
The centre-back has impressed during a pair of loan spells with Stoke City, and is now set to get his chance at the top of the Championship with Middlesbrough.
Hellberg's side have now reportedly agreed a deal to sign the 21-year-old on a permanent basis, with that transfer also now in its final stages.
Middlesbrough narrowly missed out on a return to the Premier League last term, and they are making sure they leave no stone unturned this time around.
