Man United odd-on to sign Mateus Fernandes after personal terms agreed
Manchester United are now odds-on favourites to sign Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United this summer.
The midfielder has been heavily linked with an exit from the London Stadium since the club’s relegation to the Championship.
Football Insider had exclusively revealed last week that Fernandes has agreed personal terms with Man United ahead of a potential move.
One bookmaker now believes that Old Trafford is the 21-year-old’s likely destination as they slashed the odds of a move down to 8/13.
Fernandes has been linked with numerous clubs this summer, including Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid.
However, Man United are aiming to win the race for the youngster’s signature after an impressive campaign.
Who else could Mateus Fernandes join?
Given Fernandes’ impressive campaign at West Ham last season, it is of little surprise that there is widespread interest in the star.
The 21-year-old netted three times and picked up four assists in the Premier League, and was clearly a level above the rest of the midfield.
As a result, Man United are expected to face stern competition to win the race for his signature.
Tottenham are the second favourites to complete the signing at 6/5, in what could be an intense battle.
PSG are not ruled out of the race at 16/1, while a move to Real Madrid is seen as unlikely at 25/1.
A stay at the London Stadium also seems highly improbable at 16/1, with the Hammers having little chance of keeping hold of their star midfielder ahead of their Championship campaign.
Who else are Man United linked to?
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown exclusively told Football Insider that Man United are also keen on Morgan Gibbs-White this summer.
The current Nottingham Forest star was another player who really impressed last season at the side struggling near the bottom of the table.
The Red Devils are said to be close to submitting a bid in the hope of bringing the England international to Old Trafford.
Gibbs-White almost made a move to Tottenham last summer before this deal collapsed.
However, the attacking midfielder could now push for an exit if a top club comes in for his services after Forest missed out on European football.
Nevertheless, it remains to be seen where Gibbs-White will be playing his football next season.
