Manchester United have Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha on their shortlist of midfield targets this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The Red Devils are looking to strengthen their central-midfield options, and have identified the 25-year-old as a clear candidate for them.

A move for West Ham's Mateus Fernandes is currently their top priority in that area of the pitch, but Nmecha is among a number of alternatives who are being considered.

Borussia Dortmund are understood to be "relaxed" about the German's future, having tied him down to a new four-year deal back in March.

Nevertheless, the German giants are prepared to consider selling him if a "huge" offer comes in this summer.

United are hugely keen on the 25-year-old, but do not view him as one of their biggest targets.

Felix Nmecha's reputation takes huge boost

Nmecha is coming into the summer on the back of an impressive season for Dortmund, which saw him notch six goals and three assists in all competitions.

United were already aware that it would take a big-money offer to prise him away from Dortmund this summer, and his value is now undergoing another spike.

He has already caught the eye for Germany at the World Cup, where has contributed one goal and one assist from their first two games.

Nmecha is catching the eye on the world stage and is continuing to build a growing reputation for himself.

That looks set to dramatically sweeten any prospect of a sale for Dortmund, who could be looking at extremely lofty money if they choose to cash in.

United are hoping to rebuild their midfield with multiple additions this summer, and Nmecha is a player who is firmly on their radar.

However, it looks likely that no attempt to sign him will take place until Fernandes' future has been settled.

Sources: Man United close in on Mateus Fernandes as agreement struck

Man United strike Mateus Fernandes agreement

Football Insider revealed on Sunday that United have now agreed personal terms with Fernandes, and are working towards a full agreement with West Ham.

The Irons are holding out for a fee of £80million for the Portuguese starlet, but United are trying to strike a deal at £65m plus add-ons.

United's move for the 21-year-old comes as part of Michael Carrick's attempt to add three new midfielders to their squad this summer.

A £35m deal for Atalanta star Ederson is also expected to go through after the World Cup.
