Rayan Ait-Nouri’s late cameo in Manchester City’s 2-0 victory against Porto on Tuesday shows exactly why Manchester United should have signed the left-back.

The Algeria international came on with 15 minutes to go in the Champions League clash and picked up a late assist to help seal the win.

On top of this, the 25-year-old had an all-round excellent display as he showcased how good he can be.

On deadline day, Man United attempted to sign Ait-Nouri from Man City, and reportedly looked to get the full-back on loan.

However, when City wanted an obligation to buy included in such a deal, United reportedly rejected the offer.

Now, the Red Devils must be regretting this decision, with Ait-Nouri clearly still a talented player.

How good was Rayan Ait-Nouri vs Porto?

Ait-Nouri no doubt had an excellent cameo against Porto.

In just 15 minutes, he managed to have a massive impact on the game and was a key factor in City’s victory.

According to Fotmob on 9 September, he created two chances, including one big chance, had a 0.09 xA, had two shots, had a 0.21 xG, completed 100 per cent of his passes, made two tackles and won both of his ground duels.

These stats are remarkable when you consider that Ait-Nouri did this in such a short amount of time in a Champions League match.

Therefore, Man United will be kicking themselves that they did not agree to include the obligation to buy that Man City requested, according to BBC Sport.

Can Man United survive with Luke Shaw at left-back this season?

Despite Luke Shaw’s clear weaknesses, he should be ok for this campaign.

In United’s last two fixtures, the full-back has been solid, and even managed to pick up an assist in the 2-2 draw against Everton.

Therefore, if he can continue this form throughout the campaign, he should not be a problem for Michael Carrick.

However, there is no doubt that Ait-Nouri would be a better option for Man United this season.

Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if the Red Devils decide to go back in for the left-back in the winter window or in the next summer transfer window.
