Marcus Rashford has been handed a boost in his plans to leave Manchester United this summer after Bacelona's presidential elections, sources have told Football Insider.

The 28-year-old is keen to remain at the Nou Camp beyond the end of the season after a strong loan spell in which he has become a key part of the side.

Barcelona's elections took place earlier this month and the outcome was announced on 15 March, as Joan Laporta was re-elected with 68.18 per cent of the vote.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, sources say Laporta is a big fan of Rashford and will make efforts to keep him at the club.

The England international has a £26million option to buy in his loan deal, but there are doubts about Barcelona's finances, causing issues ahead of a busy window for Man United.

Joan Laporta keen to agree Marcus Rashford deal

Football Insider revealed on 13 February that Barcelona's elections could impact Rashford's future, although Laporta was always expected to be successful.

The club president will now be allowed to continue on plans he has made for the club, with the signing of the Man United loanee part of his ambitions.

Since joining the Spanish giants on loan, Rashford has made 38 appearances, scored ten goals and picked up 13 assists, and is keen to remain at the club.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "Yeah, it'll be an interesting one.

"Ideally, Barcelona want to keep Marcus Rashford beyond the end of the season and Marcus Rashford wants to stay at Barcelona.

"Obviously, the fact that Joan Laparta has won presidency again at Barcelona really boosts Rashford's hopes of getting that move done, he wants to keep him.

"I think Hansi Flick is more than happy to keep the England international as well.

"They would prefer not to have to pay that 26 million pound fee this summer due to their ongoing financial issues.

"They would like another loan and then have the buy clause after that one. But yeah, I still think this deal will get done."

How does Rashford feel about permanent Barcelona move?

Barcelona remain hopeful of agreeing a deal with Man United to extend Rashford's stay in Spain after what has been an impressive loan spell.

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on 15 February that Rashford is keen to stay at Barcelona and has no plans to make a surprise return to Man United.

He is hoping to be involved with England at the World Cup, while eyeing more trophies to add to his Spanish Super Cup already at the Nou Camp.

Barca remain on course to win the La Liga title and have progressed into the latter stages of the Champions League and Spanish Cup.

The depth of attacking options available to Flick means the left winger has been in and out of the starting XI, but remains a valuable asset.
