Sources: Man United sensation Chido Obi in talks to join FC Koln
Manchester United rising star Chido Obi has opened talks to join Bundesliga club FC Koln, sources have told Football Insider.
The Premier League giants believe that the 18-year-old striker would benefit from a loan move next season to continue his development.
Discussions are underway over a deal that would see Obi join the German club for the 2026-27 campaign.
The teenager was restricted to Under-18 and Under-20 matches in the 2025-26 campaign, where he netted 20 goals and picked up six assists.
The striker is highly rated at Old Trafford and has made a big impression since signing in 2024 from Arsenal.
The Denmark Under-21 international made his first-team debut for Man United in February 2025 against Tottenham Hotspur in a 1-0 defeat.
Obi has far made eight first-team appearances for the Red Devils so far, with seven of these coming in the Premier League.
Who is Chido Obi?
Obi was born and raised in Denmark’s capital, Copenhagen and moved to England in 2020 to pursue his footballing career.
In the same year, he joined Arsenal academy and spent four years at the club, where he impressed.
Man United completed a swoop for the youngster in 2024, and he went on to make numerous appearances for the first team under former manager Ruben Amorim.
In May 2025, he became the youngest-ever player to start a Premier League game for Man United at the age of 17 years, 156 days.
This beat the record that was previously held by Mason Greenwood, who was 17 years and 223 days.
Later that month, he scored his first senior goals for Man United in a 3-1 friendly victory over Hong Kong.
Throughout the 2025-26 campaign, Obi would not make a single first-team appearance, with Michael Carrick opting to keep him in the academy.
How good was Obi in Man United’s academy last season?
According to Fotmob on 26 June, Obi had a fantastic 2025-26 season in the Premier League 2.
The striker averaged 0.96 goals, 4.08 shots, 2.00 shots on target, 0.89 successful dribbles and 6.52 touches in the opposition box per 90 minutes.
As a result, it is very clear that the youngster has high potential and could one day become a star at Man United.
However, it remains to be seen if this form can be replicated on loan to Koln next season, if a deal is reached.
