Manchester United are ready to turn their attention towards a fresh move for Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes, sources have told Football Insider.

Gomes is a long-term target for the Red Devils and is set to be allowed to leave Molineux this summer after Wolves' relegation from the Premier League.

That drop into the Championship is understood to have left the 25-year-old available for just £30million this summer.

United are hugely keen on the Brazilian, and are hoping to add him to their group alongside Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans, who they now have a "verbal agreement" in place to sign.

The centre of midfield has been a key area of priority for Michael Carrick and the recruitment team this summer, and Gomes could be their next arrival in that area.

There is also competition for his signature from Liverpool, with Andoni Iraola also looking bolster his options at Anfield.

Joao Gomes could become final Man United midfield signing

Football Insider revealed last week that United still wanted to add two more central midfielders after agreeing a £50m deal to sign Andrey Santos from Chelsea.

Casemiro's departure, combined with the long-term injury sustained by Manuel Ugarte at the World Cup, has left the club in the market for three new central additions ahead of next season.

United are now rapidly closing in on sealing their moves for both Santos and Tielemans, and a third familiar Premier League face could soon follow in Gomes.

He has been linked with a move to Old Trafford in several recent windows, but this could finally be the time where United get their interest over the line.

Gomes started 32 games in the Premier League last term, notching one goal and one assist from the base of their midfield.

The Black Country outfit endured a dismal campaign in every sense, but Gomes' performances were one of the few positive elements.

Brighton could encourage Man United in bid to sign Carlos Baleba for cut-price fee

Brighton could encourage Man United into Carlos Baleba swoop

Football Insider revealed last week that United also still have Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba on their radar, having also been heavily linked with him in previous windows.

They were put off by the Seagulls' £100m asking price for the 22-year-old previously, but that could change this summer.

United remain huge admirers of the 22-year-old, and could be encouraged to reignite their pursuit of Brighton indicate that a cut-price deal could be done.

The Cameroon international has flourished under Fabian Hurzeler in recent years, and made 31 appearances in the Premier League last term.
