Manchester United want Club Brugge left-back Joaquin Seys but are resisting paying the full £30million asking price, sources have told Football Insider.

The addition of a new left-back has been a top priority for the Red Devils since the start of the summer, and the 21-year-old is the latest name to join their list of targets.

However, United are not keen to pay the full asking price for the Belgian international, and are instead hoping that they can do a deal at a "reduced fee."

Sources say that Seys "ticks a lot of boxes" for Michael Carrick and Co. due to his huge potential to improve in the future.

The idea would be for him to serve as understudy to Luke Shaw initially, but then gradually make the left-back spot his own in the coming years.

Seys impressed in a breakthrough campaign for Brugge last term, when he notched five goals and eight assists in all competitions.

Man United ready to complete summer shopping

United went into the summer transfer window with two main priorities, with centre-midfield reinforcements and a new left-back right at the top of their shopping list.

They have already moved to bolster their options in the middle of the park with the signings of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans.

Now their attention has switched towards providing cover and competition for Shaw at left-back, and they are keen to add a far younger option than the England international.

Seys has emerged as a clear target for that position, but his valuation could potentially prove to be a problem for United.

The Old Trafford outfit have been relatively conservative with their spending so far this summer, and are hoping to avoid splashing out the full amount on Seys.

Michael Carrick's 'one big concern' about Man United players revealed by inside source

Michael Carrick's 'one big concern' about Man United squad

Former United chief scout Mick Brown recently told Football Insider that Carrick's "one big concern" at Old Trafford right now will be the fitness of some of his key players.

The ex-recruitment man outlined that the likes of Kobbie Mainoo, Bruno Fernandes and Benjamin Sesko have "hardly played" in pre-season, and may not have the necessary match sharpness behind them.

However, Brown urged supporters not to worry about some of the difficult results that Carrick's men have faced in pre-season.

United have only won two of their six friendlies inside 90 minutes, but Brown does not believe that will be a fair reflection of what is to come.
