Manchester United have no intention of selling midfielder Mason Mount in this summer's transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

The former England international has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford in recent weeks, but it is understood that the Red Devils are happy with him and are focusing on trying to get him back to full fitness.

Former United chief scout Mick Brown recently told Football Insider that Aston Villa and Fulham were both chasing a deal for Mount, but sources say that it will be difficult for either club to sign him this summer.

Man United's transfer stance on the 27-year-old is clear, while it would likely take a significant outlay for any club to be able to change that at all.

Mason Mount closing in on Man United return

Mount has seen the second half of his season heavily disrupted by injuries after he picked up a knock in the early weeks of 2026.

The former Chelsea star hasn't featured for the Red Devils since his cameo appearance at the end of the victory over Manchester City on 17 January, and hasn't even featured in a matchday squad since 25 January.

However, there finally appears to be light at the end of the tunnel in terms of his recovery, with interim boss Michael Carrick revealing that Mount is back in training ahead of last weekend's clash with Crystal Palace, according to The Standard.

It is expected that Wednesday's trip to Newcastle will come too soon for him to feature in the squad, but it is clear that he is now growing ever closer towards a return to the fold.

Mount made a bright start to the campaign with three goals in his opening 12 Premier League appearances in 2025-26, and Carrick will be hoping that he can hit the ground running when he returns to full fitness.

The Red Devils are handily placed to earn Champions League football for next term, and Mount may return in time to help them secure their qualification in the coming weeks.

Man United's chances of signing Amadou Onana revealed

Former Aston Villa chief executive Keith Wyness recently told Football Insider that Man United have a "good chance" of signing Villa midfielder Amadou Onana this summer.

The Scottish businessman outlined that his former club would likely value the Belgian at around the £50million mark, with a view to recouping their initial outlay to sign him from Everton.

Wyness added that he feels Onana would be a success at Old Trafford if he were to complete the move, while also suggesting that it could be a move that "benefits all parties," given Villa's PSR situation.

A move for Onana would bolster the Red Devils' midfield ranks even further, but their stance in relation to Mount's future at the club already appears to be set in stone.
