Youri Tielemans produced a shocking display as Manchester United were smashed 3-0 by Bournemouth on Sunday.

Goals from Rayan, Marcus Tavernier and Evanilson saw the Red Devils embarrassed at Old Trafford, with Michael Carrick's job now in serious danger.

The summer appointment's team are without a win in eight games across all competitions, and have won just one from eight in the Premier League in what is the club's worst ever start.

Tielemans was seen as an excellent signing when Man United triggered a previously unknown £35million release clause in his Aston Villa contract in the summer transfer window.

The 29-year-old had enjoyed a brilliant season and was said to have the perfect combination of experience and quality to lead Carrick's midfield.

But that £35m has looked worse and worse by the week, with Tielemans appearing a shadow of the player he was at Villa Park.

Youri Tielemans struggles continue

Throughout his time at Villa, Tielemans was deployed by Unai Emery at the base of the midfield in a double-pivot.

But at Man United, the Belgian is bizarrely playing as an attacking midfielder after failing to impress deeper in midfield.

The 29-year-old has had impressive moments in a more attacking position, but Sunday's display was an example of every reason why he should not play there.

Tielemans would ultimately last just 45 minutes, hooked by Carrick after an utterly woeful display.

The midfielder covered just 6.4km - the least of any outfield player to have started the game - and failed to create a single chance or take a single shot.

With only 26 touches of the ball, Tielemans made only two passes into the final third and was dispossessed a staggering four times, the joint-most of anybody.

He was dribbled past once and did not make a single defensive contribution in 45 minutes, winning just three of the 12 duels he contested.

Tielemans is certainly not the root of all of Man United's problems, but he has plenty to answer for after such a shocking display. He could be excused for hanging his head in shame.

Man United's sliding doors moment

Tielemans was joined by Andrey Santos in midfield at Man United and eventually Carlos Baleba for a combined £155m.

For £85m the Red Devils could have signed Mateus Fernandes, but decision-makers decided it was too much and he went to Tottenham instead.

It has been an incredibly damaging weekend for that call, with the former West Ham man starring at Stamford Bridge as his team pulled off a shock win over Chelsea.

Fernandes could have been the future of the Man United midfield - instead, it now feels like time to go back to the drawing board once again.
