Marc Guehi: Multiple clubs racing Newcastle to agree January deal - O'Rourke

Newcastle United face competition to sign Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi in January, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that “a few clubs” are looking to see if the 24-year-old will be available in the January transfer window.

The former Chelsea star is in a strong position right now, and sources tell Football Insider that he sees himself playing regularly in the Champions League.

Guehi is aware that the more his contract runs down there will be an increase in options other than Newcastle available to him.

Guehi’s contract at Selhurst Park expires in the summer of 2026, meaning he could be available for a cut price next summer.

Palace would have to sell him during that window or risk him running his contract down to become a free agent.

Newcastle had attempted to sign Guehi throughout the summer transfer window but were unable to agree to a deal.

The failure led to tension rising between Eddie Howe and sporting director Paul Mitchell, as the Magpie boss wanted to secure the England international to bolster his defensive options.

However, Football Insider revealed that Guehi has told friends he would prefer to join a “bigger club” than Newcastle.

Football Insider reported that Arne Slot has been “won over” by Guehi’s performances this season and now believes he could replace Virgil van Dijk in the long term.

Liverpool have concrete interest in the 24-year-old, while Man United are also monitoring him.
