Marc Guehi rejected Liverpool after 'higher' January bid submitted
Man City have finalised an excellent deal for Marc Guehi whilst rivals Liverpool have suffered a blow in the transfer market.
That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, after Man City signed Guehi from Crystal Palace for £20million.
Liverpool had agreed a deal to sign Guehi last summer, but the transfer fell through on deadline day.
Man City 'strengthening in key areas'
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs - believes the Guehi deal is good for all parties.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks the signing is a "real bonus" for Man City.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Well, look, it's pretty clear, Guehi, he did dictate where he was going to go. We all know there was a lot of talk about going to Liverpool at Christmas that fell through and that would have been for probably a higher number.
"But still it was, I think, a good result for Palace to have got the 20 million. I think it's great for Guehi to go to a club like Man City where he'll get minutes, and he'll play well, and he'll be part of a winning team. I think it was a good move for all parties and I think it was a good sign for Man City going forward that they're still strengthening in key areas and I think that was one that they needed.
"So I think it actually ends up to me being a loss for Liverpool and a real bonus for Man City that they've landed a player of that sort of calmness and good character and quality. So I think it is good for City and I think good for Palace, they got the 20 million.”
Man City pursue Newcastle star
Man City could continue strengthening their defence with the signing of Newcastle right-back Tino Livramento.
Livramento is keen to join Man City, and the 23-year-old has yet to commit his future to Newcastle despite Eddie Howe wanting to tie him down to a new contract.
Whilst a deal may not be completed in January, Man City are the front-runners to secure Livramento in the summer.
