Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown feels current Tottenham star Dele Alli still needs to add an “extra bit of brilliance” to his game.
The retired centre-back watched as the 20-year-old attacking midfielder played 71 minutes of England’s 1-0 defeat against Germany on Wednesday evening.
At club level, Alli is very much one of Spurs’ stars and was named the PFA Young Player of the Year last season as well as making the PFA Team of the Year in his debut top-flight campaign.
However, Keown feels there is still something missing from his play and the Gunners great stated both Alli and Liverpool’s Adam Lallana need a bit more “brilliance.”
“Whenever Germany had a goal kick or throw-in there was a real determination to win the ball back and retain it,” wrote Keown in his column in the Daily Mail’s Thursday print edition (page 101).

“England were workmanlike. What the players need to add, particularly Alli and Adam Lallana, is that extra bit of brilliance.”
Wednesday evening’s appearance marked Alli’s 16th cap in an England shirt at this early stage of his career.
His form for Tottenham have seen him become a regular in the Three Lions’ team and he has returned 27 goals and 19 assists in 85 appearances for the north London club following a bargain £5million move from MK Dons in the 2015 winter window.
