Paul Robinson has claimed Mason Mount will be at the top of Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp's wishlist should the necessary finances be made available.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said "a lot will depend" on whether the club is taken over prior to next summer.

Mount's contract at Stamford Bridge expires at the end of June 2024.

Contract talks between Chelsea and the player have so far proved unfruitful.

According to The Guardian's Jacob Steinberg (17 November), Liverpool and Juventus are tracking the England international amid the growing uncertainty over his future.

Jurgen Klopp is keen to bolster his midfield with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner all out of contract next summer.

When asked by Football Insider if Mount was the type of midfielder Klopp needed at Anfield, Robinson said: "I think Mount is capable of playing in a deeper midfield role.

"Liverpool are crying out for midfielders.

"A lot depends on whether a takeover happens. If the finances are available, I'm sure Mount would be at the top of Liverpool's shopping list along with Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice.

"The midfield is where Liverpool have been really lacking this year. We know they have been susceptible defensively.

"I think a lot of that is down to the midfield. It is an area that should have been addressed 12 months ago."
