Celtic legend Davie Hay is hopeful that Moussa Dembele will spend another season with Celtic.
The French striker has been the subject of transfer speculation for almost the entirety of his two years with the Hoops, but Hay believes that the 21-year-old would benefit from another season with the Bhoys.
“I think it would be fantastic news for Celtic if they had him for another season because he is a player, as I have said repeatedly, that I fully expect to go and play at the very highest level” he said, as quoted in his column in the Evening Times.
“And there is no doubt that keeping Dembele for another season would be a massive coup for the club.
“His agents are clearly sensible and out to do the right thing by the lad and one more big season at Celtic would do him no harm at all.”
Football Insider verdict
It is far too early to tell what Moussa Dembele’s future will hold, not only this season, but in the years to come. His season was blighted by injury last year, but he still managed to contribute in the big games when it mattered. His goalscoring exploits for the French under-21 side will no doubt have been noted by any interested clubs, and it would not be a shock if bids came in for the player during the summer. Davie Hay is being reasonable in wanting the player to stay with the Hoops of course, as he is one of the most important players in the side. Having Dembele at the club would also make the hazardous Champions League qualfying process a tad easier to navigate. The Champions League may hold the key to Dembele’s future, as he would possibly be less likely to stay in Glasgow should the Hoops fail to reach the group stages, but only time will tell.
