Alan Hutton says that tying down star defender Borna Barisic is a priority for Rangers after Steven Gerrard confirmed interest in his signing.
The former Gers defender and lifelong fan at Ibrox, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, suggests there may be something in the pipeline already to ensure he is not tempted to leave any time soon.
Gerrard confirmed that there have been clubs sniffing around the left-back this month after his fine performances in Glasgow, the boss saying there are “low-level talks” over his future.
Hutton says that it is no shock that clubs are looking at raiding his old side for Barisic but says tying him down will be the club’s immediate priority.
Asked about the speculation over Hutton told Football Insider: “It doesn’t surprise me, I’m pretty sure they would have watched him in the European games and he’s really thrived at that level.
“He’s went from strength to strength really. He looks a real talent, Gerrard and Rangers know that so they’re going to try and tie him down to a longer deal, that’s a priority, but if a decent size bid comes in, then I’m pretty sure Rangers would have to think about it.
“(It’s) Massive, he brings so much to the team at a pivotal time in the league. They’d either have to have someone in the wings or a plan B if you like.”
Barisic has 13 assists in 27 appearances this season, emerging as a constant threat down the left-hand flank for Gerrard.
He has a total of 49 games under his belt for the Glasgow giants, having signed from Osijek back in 2018.
