Exclusive: Whelan claims Leeds player causing Bielsa 'Huge problem'
Noel Whelan claims that Leeds United striker Eddie Nketiah is causing Marcelo Bielsa a “huge problem” after his performances over the international break.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Leeds striker and lifelong supporter of the Whites says that the 20-year-old’s displays for the England under-21s, having scored twice against Turkey, will have the Argentine boss scratching his head ahead of Sunday’s clash versus Barnsley.
The Arsenal loanee has not started in the Championship yet, Patrick Bamford clearly Bielsa’s first-choice striker, with three substitute appearances in the league for the youngster.
However, with a brace for the Three Lions’ youth side, Whelan says that Nketiah is making it very difficult for his club boss to keep leaving him on the bench.
Whelan told Football Insider: “We’re not a winning side now so the team can be changed. We know Bielsa doesn’t like to change a winning side, now it’s different, we’re coming off the back of a defeat.

“Nketiah is off the back of a great international break with the under-21s, scoring twice – he’s going to be full of confidence. He’s put a massive question mark and a huge problem there for Marcelo Bielsa, what does he do?
“You’ve got a striker that’s firing on all cylinders, he could be the one that causes more problems than Patrick, he’s a different type of player. Maybe it is the time to give him this outing.”
Nketiah has three goals in five games across all competitions for Leeds this season, with two of those appearances coming in the League Cup games against Salford City and Stoke City.
Striking counterpart and rival Bamford has also hit the goal trail this season, netting four in seven Championship outings.
