'Massive setback' - Exclusive: Ex-striker gutted after crushing Celtic player update
Noel Whelan admits it is gutting to see Celtic defender Jack Hendry ruled out with a serious injury while on loan at Melbourne City.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Aberdeen and Leeds striker insists that both the player, his loan side and the Hoops will be frustrated by the crushing setback.
The A-League side have confirmed that the centre-back is set for a long spell on the sidelines after rupturing his ligaments in only his second appearance for the club, with surgery taking place earlier in the week.
We wish Jack a speedy recovery! 💪

Whelan says that with Hendry looking to kick start his stuttering career in Glasgow, this is a blow that will only keep his career at Parkhead in doubt.
Whelan told Football Insider: “It’s a long way to go to get a serious injury and then fly back.
“It’s unfortunate, that’s just part and parcel of playing any kind of sport, there’s always there’s that danger. It’s something football players always think about and touch wood, it doesn’t happen.

“There’s that odd occasion where these things do and it’s a massive setback, there’s no doubt about that. He’s out there on loan to get experience, wanting to kick start his career and all of a sudden it’s halted for a number of months.
“This is a really bad injury. It must be demoralising for the player and obviously very frustrating for Celtic.”
Hendry has played only 27 times for the Hoops since moving from Dundee back in January 2018, with just one appearance this season.
