Kevin Phillips has suggested that a move to Arsenal would suit Aston Villa talisman Jack Grealish down to the ground.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former England international admitted that as a Gunners fan himself, the prospect of a swoop for the Villa captain was an exciting one.

As per Sky Sports News, Mikel Arteta’s men have already registered an inquiry into the playmaker’s availability this summer.

And Phillips believes that the Grealish has exactly what it takes to be a success in the capital, should a deal materialise.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “Being an Arsenal fan as well, I wouldn’t mind seeing him there.

“Arteta is taking Arsenal in the right direction. He’s made some brave decision since he’s been there. He’s made it clear to the board that he wants money to spend.

“I think it would be a massive statement of intent if Arsenal were to go out and spend £70 million on Grealish. He’s certainly a player who would fit the mould for Arsenal.

“The big thing for me, if I’m Grealish, I only want to go to Arsenal if you’re going to keep Aubameyang, Lacazette, Pepe, players like that. But yeah, I can see him fitting in at Arsenal no problem.”

Grealish was an integral component in Villa’s battle for Premier League survival this season, hitting eight goals and six assists in 36 outings, including a vital strike against West Ham on the final day.

Speaking after the crucial 1-0 win over Arsenal in the penultimate game of the campaign, the midfielder admitted that he might have played his last game at Villa Park for his boyhood club.

In other Aston Villa news, Danny Mills has told Football Insider that 56-year-old ‘has to be culpable’ after huge development.
