Rookie coach Graeme Murty has been made favourite to be appointed Rangers next permanent manager, according to the latest bookmakers' odds.

SkyBet have priced Murty at 5/2 to take the reigns at Ibrox - should they sack Pedro Caixinha - ahead of Alex McLeish (6/1) and Derek McInnes (7/1).

Sky Sports reported on their live daily blog on Thursday [11:47am] that the board had held a crunch meeting over the Rangers manager's future at the club after a string of poor results.

The Gers find themselves in fourth place in the Scottish Premiership after Wednesday's 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock and it appears that the result may have been the last straw for the beleagured Ibrox board.

Caixinha was only appointed at Rangers boss in March and was handed a three-year deal when he replaced Mark Warburton in the hotseat.

The Light Blues face a trip to Edinburgh on Saturday to face Hearts at their temporary Murrayfield home in a game they must win.

The 46-year-old rebuilt his squad over the summer with 11 new faces replace the 12 players he shipped out but several of his new signings have struggled with Scottish football.

Carlos Pena and Eduardo Herrera were Rangers' two biggest financial outlays of the summer but neither has been able to command regular first-team football since moving to Scotland.

Here we at Football Insider takes a look at each of the favourites to replace Caixinha.

Graeme Murty (5/2)

Rangers

Rangers Under-20 head coach has already had a brief taste of the first-team role after filling in as caretaker when Mark Warburton resigned.

Murty is a very highly-regarded youth coach and managed to get a 1-1 draw with Celtic at Parkhead in March with the first-team as Caixinha looked on from the stands.

Former Scotland international Murty will already be familiar with all of the players and has impressed with the Gers' Development Squad.

He is still very inexperienced though so would be a big gamble to appoint him as first-team manager.

SkyBet have Murty as 5/2 favourite to replace Caixinha.

Derek McInnes (7/1)

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes is priced at 7/1 with SkyBet to replace Caixinha and seems to be the fans' pick to take charge.

McInnes has done a fantastic job at Aberdeen to guide them to second in the Scottish Premiership.

He almost joined Sunderland over the summer and would likely cost a sizeable amount to entice Aberdeen into letting their manager leave.

McInnes is no stranger to Rangers after spending five years at Ibrox as a player from 1995-2000.

Former St. Johnstone and Bristol City boss would be the appointment that would please mose people but it's difficult to see Aberdeen letting him go without a fight.

Alex McLeish (6/1)

Rangers

McLeish's name is mentioned everytime the Rangers job is discussed and it's no surprise to see SkyBet pricing McLeish at 6/1 to replace Caixinha.

The former Scotland boss knows the job well having spent five years in charge of Rangers from 2001 to 2006.

McLeish's last management role was with Egyptian side Zamalek and the 58-year-old has become something of a journeyman in recent years with spells in Egypt, Belgium and England.

He is still the last Rangers boss to lift a domestic treble and would definitely give the Gers some much needed steel if he was to replace Caixinha.

Some fans still hold his record at the end of his time at Ibrox against him but he's a known quantity that the board can trust.
