Shakhtar Donetsk manager Paulo Fonseca jetted into the UK on Monday for talks with West Ham co-chairman David Sullivan, according to a report.

The Mirror claims that the 45-year-old even viewed a luxury property in the nearby area as he remains the frontrunner to replace David Moyes as Hammers boss.

It is understood that West Ham will have to move quick if they want to appoint Fonseca though as Ukrainian champions Shakhtar are ready to offer him a new lucrative deal.

Football Insider verdict

Fonseca has done a good job at Shakhtar Donetsk, but it's going to be a massive difference for him to leave Ukraine's best team to join a Premier League club that was battling against relegation this season. The Portuguese boss has managed a lot of teams in his career, varying from title-favourites like Porto and Shakhtar, to small sides such as Aves and Pacos Ferreira. He has never spent more than two years anywhere so will he be a long-term manager at the London Stadium? Given how managers are sacked and replaced in the Premier League, it does not seem likely and if he started to do a good job there, someone like him would surely be wanted elsewhere on the continent. It does appear he is frontrunner for the Hammers job though and it would be a bit of a surprise if the club were to hire anyone else after he viewed a property nearby. West Ham like to replace their managers quick and it seems Moyes will be succeeded very sharpish.
